Ministry suggests grain export quota of 7 mln tns Apr 1–Jun 30

MOSCOW, Mar 27 (PRIME) -- The Agriculture Ministry has suggested introduction of an export quota for Russian grain amounting to 7 million tonnes from April 1 until the end of June, the ministry said in a statement on Friday.

“In order to maintain stability on the food market of the Russian Federation and the states of the Eurasian Economic Union under the current economic conditions, the Agriculture Ministry has prepared a list of proposals aimed at securing internal demand for grain and products of its processing,” the statement read.

“In particular, the ministry developed a restrictive mechanism of quoting exports of the most important grains for the Russian market – wheat, corn, barley, and rye – together with the largest national exporters of grain.”

The draft government ruling sets a temporary quota of 7 million tonnes for exports of wheat and meslin, rye, barley, and corn to countries outside the Eurasian Economic Union starting from April 1 through June 30, the ministry said.

The ministry also launched preparations for state interventions on the grain market taking into account the maximum prices defined for 2020–2021. The measure should make the domestic market more stable, the authority said.
